Real-Life Communication

How do golf course designers find clients? "A lot of times, they come to us," says designer Hunter Pittman.

Initial written communication might be an introductory letter and a brochure. Then, if the client is interested, Pittman may set up a meeting with the client. They'll then work on a presentation for the client. "These will be...construction drawings and color renderings, which we explain to the client," says Pittman.

You're a golf course designer and there's a community project on the horizon for a brand new 18-hole golf course. Compose a letter to properly introduce yourself and your firm. What details might you include in your letter, and how would you let them know you'd like to do a presentation for them?

Note: For promotional letters, you should use letterhead and quality paper to make the best impression possible. Use only white or buff paper. If your paper doesn't already have the letterhead printed on it, use a word processing or publishing program on your computer to design a letterhead.
