Real-Life Decision Making

When you design golf courses, there are many things to take into account, including playability for all skills levels and how it looks. "Then you have to balance playability versus maintenance!" adds course designer Hunter Pittman.

Then there's the budget factor. Designers have to work within the constraints of a budget set by the owners of the golf course. You're designing the Whispering Willow golf course. Things are going just fine, except one hole is near water. You can build a retaining wall around the green, or move the playing area further from the water.

Keep in mind, however, that you're not just dealing with how pleasing the area is to the eye. You also have to take into account the playability of the hole, future maintenance, and, most of all, the budget! What do you do?
