Real-Life Math

Math will always be important to Internet marketers because they often have to analyze data on a variety of fronts -- such as how many "hits" a website had in a certain time period or how many sales were generated by a particular ad -- and then develop or adjust their strategies according to their findings.

"Math skills are very important in direct response," says Internet marketer Gregg Meiklejohn. "However, the math is basic math."

Gathering data on how many "hits," or visits, a website is receiving during a certain time period can go far in telling whether or not the Internet marketer's campaign is a success, or if strategies or methods need to be reworked.

If you worked as an Internet marketer and had the task of gauging the popularity of a website based on the number of hits it received in a single day, how could you determine the average number of pages a visitor looked at before leaving your client's site? Here are the variables you'll need:

  • Your client's website received roughly 41.667 visitors each hour for 24 hours.
  • You have determined that there were a total of 3,500 page views from that site during that day.

Based on the information given above, determine the total number of visitors in 24 hours, as well as the average number of pages each person (visitor) looked at on your client's website before exiting completely.
