Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

You follow the writer's advice and take the offer on the spot.

You call the writer and her squeals of joy make you briefly happy. Even the financial terms don't diminish her enthusiasm. She's happy, so you should be happy.

But later that week, during a visit with another editor, the subject of the book comes up. The editor says he heard the book was sold and says he would have paid a $25,000 advance for the novel and that the other house got the bargain of the century. You feel a little foolish.

Agents aren't supposed to tell writers what to do, but they do have an obligation to make sure they get every offer presented to them.
