Real-Life Math
You are an art dealer. You specialize in early 20th-century landscape
paintings. You love the paintings on your gallery walls, and don't like
to part with them. But because you are running a business, all the artwork
is for sale.
"You are running a business, so math enters into it,"
says Janette Langmann, an art dealer. "You have to buy and sell, keep track
of your inventory and make sure you are running a profit."
At your
gallery, you have many international clients. If they wish to know the prices
in their own currency, you are happy to oblige. "You need to be able to communicate
with the buyer, and be able to work out the figures," adds Wendy Wong, an
art dealer.
A Canadian is looking at 2 different paintings, 1 listed
in American dollars and 1 listed in British pounds. Can you help her figure
out what the price of each painting would be in Canadian dollars?
