"Math is rarely used by archivists in their work. Some managers need to prepare budgets and keep track of financial transactions," says archives professor Terry Eastwood. He adds that some statistics are kept, but nothing goes beyond basic arithmetic.

Donna Murphy is responsible for budgeting for her department. , "With budgeting, you have to allocate money across the months," she says. Of course, you'd have to have your math skills in order to make the numbers balance in the end.

Last year, you were handed the responsibility for budgeting your company's archive department. The total allocated to you for the year was $15,500.
