Real-Life Communication

You are a manager for a sports society. You have just had an executive meeting. You have discussed and voted in favor of presenting the following information at the next general meeting.

Membership fees will be increasing by five percent in January. This is to cover the additional administration costs, which will be expected in the new year. The rent for the building is going up by three percent. This five percent increase in fees should just cover that. The rent is currently $10,000 a year and the membership fees are $300 a year. You have 40 members.

Sue Coyler is executive director of a sports society. She says one of the things she needs to do is "communicate the information on the new fee structures to members, coaches, and sponsors."

You also need to do this in preparation for the meeting at which the vote will be taken. How would you most effectively communicate this information? Coyler says the best way is by newsletter.

Write a short article (about 100 words) for your society's newsletter. Remind your members that there will be a vote on this at the next general meeting -- Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse. It is important that they attend.
