Real-Life Decision Making -- Solution

Stick with your original decision to break until tomorrow

You've been training a dolphin to do a back flip, but she's just not getting it. You're planning to quit for the day, but a co-worker tells you he doesn't think you should quit. He thinks that the dolphin will be better off if you continue to train her today.

You explain to your co-worker that, in your experience, this dolphin takes to new ideas better in the morning. You think she is tired and needs a break. You thank him for his feedback and let him know that you're going to call it a day.

Michele Cossa is a dolphin trainer at Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida. She has to decide how to appropriately give feedback to co-workers. "Communication is of high importance," she says. She communicates with the animals through body language and gestures. But she also has to communicate with other staff members.

The next morning you start again with the dolphin's training. It's a lot of work, and you attempt the back flip many, many times. Finally she gets it! You are so excited. You reward the dolphin with lots of fish.
